Hello, Agile World!
Today, we’re going to talk about a great Agile development practice: The Three Amigos. It is an Agile ceremony among many, but what differentiates this one is its unique way of handling the communication gaps between the Scrum Team members.
What are the 3 roles that often participate in this ceremony?
The Three Amigos are :
- The Product Owner: presents the user stories, the why, he also makes sure that his 2 amigos (Tester and developer) understand it.
- The Developer: indicates the technical setups and needs to build great increments, the Dev also participates in assessing the impacts of such evolutions and discuss the testing cases and strategy.
- Tester: accountable for product quality. He might prepare the data sets for the test cases, and specify them formally. He must take care of testing the acceptance criteria of the user story. (He’s usually helped by the other team members to find exceptions and missing test cases.)
Those three amigos share different point of views and perspectives, the thing that may cause some issues or, might lead everybody to a great discussion and sharp conclusions.
Benefits of the 3 amigos practice
With 3 Amigos, quality won’t be an issue, nor the definition of Done. Here are some proven benefits :
- The agile team understands better the requirements and the value to be delivered.
- During this ceremony, we might challenge and refine the requirements, which might result in improving the value to be delivered.
- It clarifies the acceptance criteria and the test cases to be performed or automated, which assures the quality of our delivered product.
- Etc.
